“Splash Pollinators 2” depicts bright flowers being pollinated by honeybees and hummingbirds. The mural was installed by international artist, Felipe Ortiz, onto the front-facing brick wall of Kathryn P. Stoklosa Middle School, and produced by Project Learn.
The installation of the Splash Pollinators mural was made possible by the City of Lowell’s Public Art grant program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Welcome to Centralville
Artist: Quest Nine
Design Input: CTI Youth Build of Lowell and Refuge Art School
The Centralville Welcome Mural was installed by local artist, Quest Nine, in partnership with CTI YouthBuild of Greater Lowell, and commissioned by the Centralville Neighborhood Action Group. The mural depicts the Joseph Ouelette Memorial Bridge and representations of Centralville’s diverse population.

Urban Healing

The Urban Healing mural depicts “Mother Earth” holding the city together as reminder of how nature surrounds everything. Included are depictions of local plants and herbs that grow in urban settings such as milkweed, jewelweed, and yarrow. The mural was installed by Refuge Art School students and coordinated through Project LEARN’s ArtUp Initiative.

Rancho Tipico Mural

The Rancho Tipico mural includes depictions of the Monumento de Santiago, an iconic structure in the Dominican Republic, as well as traditional merengue musicians, dancers, and, of course, a family enjoying a feast of some favorite Dominican dishes. Installed by Lowell High School students, the mural was coordinated through Project LEARN’s ArtUp Lowell initiative.

The Waterdragon
Artist: Jay Hungate
Date Installed: July 2024
Originally created and installed in 2007, The Waterdragon has been an iconic tribute to Lowell’s canal system. It’s first home was the fence of the Lowell National Historical Park off Dutton Street. The Waterdragon became a popular backdrop for countless photographs of visitors and locals in downtown Lowell. The shiny CDs, serving as scales, were donated and decorated by the community. Since its return, The Waterdragon has resided near Wannalancit Mills.
The return of The Waterdragon was made possible through the City of Lowell’s Public Art grant program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
